Established in 1995, BYD Company Limited, a Hong Kong listed company, became
the world’s second largest rechargeable battery manufacturer in 2003.
BYD Automotive was launched in the same year. BYD Automotive has devoted itself
to research, development and manufacture of world class products. Only one Chinese
automaker has demonstrated a long-term commitment to improving the global environment
and the health and well being of people around the world. That company is BYD
Auto, the first manufacturer to bring Dual mode (DM) electric vehicles to the
market. BYD Auto is employing its own cutting edge technology to develop a range
of ‘new energy’ transportation solutions, including pure electric
vehicles, which will promote clean air and help reduce the global dependence
on oil.
Warren Buffett’s recent purchase of a USD 232 million stake in BYD has
given the company an endorsement from one of the world's most successful investors
providing BYD immediate added capital, credibility and a higher profile. The
company also featured as the cover story of the “Fortune 500” magazine
April 2009 issue. CNN recently interviewed their chairman Wang Chuanfu in April
2009 & became the first members of the media to test drive BYD’s electric
car.
Currently engaged in developing and manufacturing IT components, batteries and
automobiles, BYD has seven production bases in Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai,
Xi’an and Huizhou, with subsidiaries and offices in the United States,
Netherland, Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan and
Hongkong. The company currently has 130,000 employees working for it worldwide.
BYD Auto will continue to expand its product portfolio over the foreseeable
future to include a broad range of sedans, hatchbacks, cross over & multipurpose
vehicles. Its hall mark will remain cutting edge “green” technology,
safety, reliability, quality & affordable prices.
